The SBCL is an Investment in You

This class typically takes 20 hours to complete. If you make an average of $19 an hour, you're looking at investing $380 of time into developing your commercial lines expertise. Let's see the return on investment you get for those hours.

Is It Worth It?

To graduate you will sell a Commercial Lines account. An average account can include:

  • Average BOP = $1,000 (20% Commission)
  • Average BAP = $1,500 (15% Commission)
  • Average WC = $500 (15% Commission)
  • Average Umb = $1,000 (20% Commission)

Total Written Premium

The average account (shown left) totals $4,000 with an average commission of 17.5% ($700). The typical SBCL graduate goes on to sell one commercial lines policy a month for the next year. As a result, you could net (on average) a grand total of $8,400 from your initial investment of $380 worth of hours spent in just one year. That's quite a return!

Our Trainers

Katherine Bova

I started as a CSR in 1980, earned my Commercial Lines Specialists from Travelers school in 1984, and was promoted in 1991 to Vice President of an independent agency. In 2005 I took advantage of an opportunity with ASNOA—a fast-paced, growing network—as the Commercial Lines Manager; with my years of experience with Applied Systems AMS, I quickly added the IS Trainer title in addition to the Commercial Lines Manager role. In 2011 I became Director of IS Training and Commercial Manager, and in 2018 I moved into the role of Vice President of Education. My next achievement was earning the Small Business Coverage Specialist SBCS and Insurance Training Professional ITP designations, and in 2020 I became the Vice President of Operations at ASNOA.

My specialty is small business commercial training because I've been there in the trenches selling SBCL insurance as an independent agent. I understand the nuances of marketing and servicing to this particular market.

I have a proven track record giving guidance to agents by setting best practices, developing workflows within an agency and teaching agents how to utilize their Agency Management System. I present at multiple Applied Net Conferences, participate on the Product Advisory Committee, and continually strive to make day to day processes easier.

Overall, I take pride in assisting new ASNOA Agents transition into the independent agency sector, as well as providing ongoing training for new agent’s staff.
